Caring for your handmade pieces
Everything from Knitting Dreams is made by hand in small batches. A little care keeps each piece looking the way it did the day it arrived. Find your product type below.
Handmade candles
Every candle is hand-poured in small batches, so slight variations in surface and colour are normal.
- First burn matters. Let the melt pool reach the full width of the candle before putting it out. Usually 1-2 hours. This stops it tunnelling on later burns.
- Trim the wick to about 5 mm before every burn. A long wick causes smoke and soot.
- Burn for no more than 3-4 hours at a time, then let the candle cool fully.
- Place on a flat, heat-resistant surface, away from curtains, draughts and direct sunlight.
- Never leave a burning candle unattended, and keep it away from children and pets.
- Stop burning when about 1 cm of wax remains, so the vessel does not overheat.
- Store somewhere cool and dark. Heat softens wax and fades colour.
Crochet & knitted pieces
Cotton yarn is sturdy but it will stretch if you let it carry its own weight while wet.
- Hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent. No bleach, no fabric softener.
- Do not wring or twist. Press the water out gently between your palms or in a towel.
- Dry flat, reshaped by hand. Hanging a wet crochet piece will pull it out of shape permanently.
- Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight. Bright dyes fade.
- If a stitch catches, ease it back into place with a blunt needle. Do not pull the loose end.
- Store folded and dry. For bags and totes, stuff lightly with tissue to hold the shape.
Jars, trays & candle holders
These are cast and finished by hand. They are decorative pieces, not tableware.
- Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry immediately. Nothing abrasive.
- Not dishwasher safe, and not microwave safe.
- Do not soak. Prolonged water contact can dull the sealed surface.
- Avoid harsh chemicals, solvents and acidic cleaners.
- Use a felt pad or coaster underneath on wood, so the base does not mark polished surfaces.
- Lift rather than drag, and store apart from other hard objects so edges do not chip.
Incense holders
Simple to look after, as long as you let them cool first.
- Let the holder cool completely before you clean it.
- Tip out the ash and wipe with a dry or lightly damp cloth.
- For stubborn residue, a little mild soap on a soft cloth. Never a scouring pad.
- Always burn incense on a stable, heat-resistant surface, away from anything flammable.
Snow Pearl Wax
Sold loose by weight in 250 g, 500 g and 1 kg packs.
- Store sealed in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight.
- Pour into a heat-resistant vessel and level the surface before lighting.
- Keep the wick trimmed short, exactly as you would with a poured candle.
- Top up with fresh wax once the level drops. Do not burn the vessel dry.
- Keep the unused pack away from children and pets.
